Pocketbook is offering an improved version of its 6-inch Pocketbook Verse e-reader, with a Pro version that improves on certain points to offer a top-of-the-range 6-inch e-reader, the Pocketbook Verse Pro.

The Pocketbook Verse Pro will arrive in 2023 to replace the Pocketbook Touch HD 3, which was beginning to show its age.

But the idea is still the same: to offer the best possible equipment in a 6-inch format. This Pocketbook Verse Pro is therefore in direct competition with the recent Kobo Clara 2E - see the review.

6" e-reader - 1072 x 1448 pixel e ink screen - Ebook formats supported: EPUB, PDF, FB2, FB2.ZIP, TXT, DJVU, HTM, HTML, DOC, DOCX, RTF, CHM, TCR, PRC (MOBI), JPEG, BMP, PNG, TIFF

⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Pocketbook Verse Pro features a 6-inch Carta HD e-ink screen with the best possible resolution, a touch layer with blue light filter (Smartlight system), physical buttons and broad compatibility with the different ebook formats available.

To complete the offer, the e-reader is waterproof (IPX8 certification) and the reading software features text-to-speech, so you can listen to classic digital books without having to buy the audio version. To take advantage of this, you'll need to connect the e-reader to a Bluetooth speaker or headset.

The Pocketbook Verse Pro takes up the new design introduced with the Pocketbook InkPad 4 and retains physical buttons under the screen to access the main reading functions: accessing menus and turning pages.

Here are the technical specifications of the Pocketbook Verse Pro:

  • 6-inch Carta HD e-ink display with 1072 x 1448 pixel resolution (300 PPI)
  • Dual-core ARM processor: 2 x 1 Ghz
  • 512 MB RAM memory
  • 16 GB storage
  • USB-C port
  • IPX 8 waterproofing
  • Gyroscope (presumably for automatic orientation in landscape or portrait mode)
  • Wifi
  • Bluetooth for text-to-speech function
  • 1500 mAh battery
  • eBook file formats: EPUB, PDF, FB2, FB2.ZIP, TXT, DJVU, HTM, HTML, DOC, DOCX, RTF, CHM, TCR, PRC (MOBI), JPEG, BMP, PNG, TIFF
  • Audio file formats: MP3, MP3.zip, OGG, OGG.zip, M4A, M4B
  • Dimensions: 108 x 156 x 7.6 mm
  • Weight: 186 g

The Pocketbook Verse Pro is a light update of the Pocketbook Touch HD 3, with a new design and USB-C port, while retaining the blue light filter (Smartlight) and text-to-speech.

This Pocketbook Verse Pro is aimed at advanced users looking for the best reading device with a 6-inch screen.

With a price tag of $169.99, it is positioned in the same price segment as the Kobo Clara 2E, which also offers audiobook reading, but without the text-to-speech function.

It's going to be a close match between these two readers, since the Kobo Clara 2E offers the same type of screen and similar functionalities.
